We visited the usual Friday night Jam session at the local "USA Pub If." This pub was kind enough to loan me a guitar which I have been using these last few years.

Around the time this photo was taken was when I started actually forming full-on songs and gaining the confidence to get up and attempt to perform them. I was vocally and spritually weak following the quitting of my photo job and lack of practice time . My guitar skills were less than satisfactory as well. I havn't done any performing since, only practicing, and as you can see, it was not a packed house at this particular venue. So as of January I have gone one step further and scheduled a gig at my friend's cafe in the neighborhood where I used to live. The place is called Tiny Cafe thus the crowd will probably fit under that same title. Tiny.

But the songs are flowing and I can feel myself growing less and less self-conscious as the weeks go by. So in order not to jinx my good fortune, I'm growing my hair and beard in an act of transitory expression of my growth as a musician. Lets hope I don't get fired in the meantime for looking like Grizzly Adams.

World Peace Now Photos

World Peace Now or eventually

This last Sunday was quite chilly, but dispite the cold, about three hundred protesters (mostly age fifty and up),one hundred police officers and one or two anti-peace-parade right-wingers hit the streets to speak up about the war in Iraq. I'm guessing the right-wingers were angry at the snails pace the whole parade was moving? I don't know, but on top of the lack of youngsters you might expect to be flaunting signs and jumping about in the streets at a protest, we were also shocked in realizing there were about three foreigners participating.

The whole atmosphere of the participants in the event felt like members of a club and, of course, anyone was welcome to join in the parade, but who knew about it? But despite the lack of publicity in either Japanese or English, the turnout at least had its numbers and the crowd was quite enthusiastic.

I worked my way up to the front of the parade and found a bit of a younger crowd leading with taiko drums, didgeridoos (dude was walking and playing, couldn't even hear it over the drums), and even a DJ truck called the Peace Boat mixing with the drums. I noticed by the finishing point of the parade that this leading group had actually broken away from the rest of the protesters and had narrowed down to about twenty-five people. Everyone ended up jumping, banging drums and screaming and in the end it actually looked like a protest....in a small park....with nobody around to witness our outcries for peace and justice.....then I went to get a coffee.
The march was sponsored by www.worldpeacenow.jp

The Bowl Man

For the first post on Lake The Reaves, I give you the The Bowl Man. And when the bowl is clean, he knows his work here is done.

I'm attempting to start this new site on the grounds that it will post my photos much faster than my current blog (www.photoblog.be/ty) which, up until recently, I have been quite satisfied with, but has become quite sluggish and I'm not sure why. Sometimes taking a day or two to view my photos. This host is already showing more potential.

So I guess from now on please check back with me here if you have time. I'm going to try to write more on this blog as well, so it will be more like a Tyler and Lake The Reaves newsletter rather than just a photo album with pictures that don't have a description.
